Full Length Mirror
Steel, bicycle parts, 100 x 14 x 13 inches
Full Length Mirror is an interactive metal sculpture that invites viewers into a heightened encounter with their own reflection. Departing from traditional mirrors' static, head-to-toe image, this work features a small, movable mirror that travels vertically, from floor to eye level, encouraging viewers to engage with their bodies in fragments rather than as a whole.
This shifting perspective disrupts habitual modes of self-recognition, prompting a more conscious and layered process of self-observation. As viewers track their image through motion, the act of looking becomes active, even performative, bringing renewed attention to appearance, posture, and presence.
Notably, many participants pause upon seeing their reflection, revealing moments of introspection: a flicker of discomfort, a gesture of self-appreciation, or an awareness of how the face, often the only visible part of the body, dominates self-perception. This moment of hesitation underscores the complex interplay between visibility, identity, and the ways we construct a sense of self through physical form.
